Hello
My journey in the world of photography was inspired by my spouse, Phyllis. Phyllis bought me my first 35mm SLR camera as a wedding present. During our life together, Phyllis and me traveled across Canada from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island. We ventured into the U.S. and some other far off destinations. Phyllis also bought me my first digital camera. Phyllis shared my love of wildlife and being in the great outdoors. My journey into photography has evolved over the years, with some underwater photography, from film to digital and now I want to share the images that I have captured and continue to capture.
My Story
At a young age I was introduced to wildlife. I have many memories of our family camping trips to Algonquin Park and encounters with wildlife. I loved hearing the sound of loons on a lake. Back then there was no such thing as camper trailers or todays modern fifth wheel trailers, we slept on the ground in canvas tents. The process of setting up camp was always fun, we would dig a small trench around the tent so the rain would hopefully run away from the tent and our sleeping bags.
Then my parents bought a 10 acre lot northwest of Huntsville, ON. We, my parents, and my four sisters, as a family built a log cabin from scratch. I remember how my dad, me, and another fellow would walk into the forest and mark trees. This other fellow would eventually become my brother-in-law. We would then go back and cut down the selected trees. My dad used to work for a forestry company and had experience at felling trees. Once the tree was down the process of taking the limbs off started. Then we would drag the logs back to our building site. The project of building the cabin took several years to complete. We constantly had encounters with wildlife, deer, moose, bear, and lynx.
By the time the project of building the cabin was completed, I had finally reached the age that I could get a drivers licence. I would spend weekends and vacation time at that cabin. Hence began another passion, exploring the backroads of Ontario in my car. Fast forward to getting married, my bride to be, Phyllis bought me my first 35 MM SLR camera as a wedding present, and my journey into photography started. Sadly, after five decades of life's adventures together, Phyllis passed away a couple of years after a cancer diagnosis.
